Shaun Alexander finished 1 yard shy of tying for the NFL rushing championship yesterday, and the Seahawks' Pro Bowl running back was not happy about it.

"This is the first time I've ever been back-stabbed in my life," Alexander said in the Qwest Field locker room after the Seahawks won the NFC West title by outlasting the Atlanta Falcons 28-26.

The focus of Alexander's frustration was what proved to be the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. Faced with a second-and-goal from the Falcons' 1-yard line with 4 1/2 minutes to play, the call was for a sneak by quarterback Matt Hasselbeck.

Not a handoff to Alexander.

As a result, he finished with 80 rushing yards in the game and 1,696 for the season. The Jets' Curtis Martin, who began the day 72 yards behind Alexander, rushed for 153 in New York's overtime loss to the St. Louis Rams to finish with 1,697.

Not cool to publically say it, but I'd be upset too though. Only 19 carries? He is probably the best back in the NFC and SEA just does not give him enough touches. Yesterday, the JETS had the early game so SEA knew how many yards / touches he would need, and 82 yards is not too many to shoot for in the context of the game.

Come on. How can you care about individual stats. If you are winning who cares. Selfishness will catch up.

Like I said, I wouldn't say anything out loud, but you are a better man than me to not be upset when all it took was one or two more carries in the game. All it really took was one more run on 2nd and 1. If the company I work for is doing well, but they don't pay me, I should still be happy? SEA has misused him all year; going too much with the passing game when their best weapon is Alexander. Which is why they lost all those games.

They lost all the games they did because their defense can't stop anyone in the 4th quarter. Alexander is a dik for running his mouth this time. His team just won the NFC west and he is bitching about individual achievements. Is he trying to win a championship or not?

Just shows how friggin stupid this jerk is............if I were a GM looking to sign him now I would think twice about him being a "TEAM PLAYER" think how much $$$$ he really cost himself...........last time I checked the NFL was'nt to crazy anyway to give running backs big money contracts like QB's........this is an instance where he would have become more valuable by saying the right thing or shutting up!!!!!!

he has every right to be pissed

and i do agree with what someone said on NFL Live on espn

if shaun alexander didn't fumble @ the NYJ 1-yard line he would have had his 1 extra yard so in this sense - he has only himself to blame.

wonder if there was a large bonus involved if Alexander won the rushing title, I would certainly assume so.. Very strange how he only gets 18 carries for 80 yards in such a crucial game for Seattle as well as a quarterback sneak involved from the 1 yard line with 4 minutes left with him being 1 yard back. Not defending him here but wouldn't put it past some of these sleazy owners and gm's these days.
